​​​📸 Dance Photo Shoot Guidelines

  • Please, eyes to the camera (unless directed otherwise). It can be tempting to look around. Think of it as spotting—to the camera. Your gaze brings focus and power to the image.

  • Own the space. When we’re shooting in public, think of it like a performance. I assure you that whoever may be watching will only be curious and impressed! Let people see your confidence and stage presence. 

  • Listen for movement direction, and I may step in to adjust spacing, angles, and details for a better shot.

  • Move through the pose—don’t hold it. I want to catch you mid-motion, at the height of a leap or extension. You can repeat a move a few times so we get that perfect moment.

  • Show strong technique. Stretch through every line—feet, fingers, legs, arms. Engage your core and dance from head to toe.

  • Hold your formation. Once we’ve set up the pose or movement, stay in place until I tell you otherwise.

  • Repeat the move if needed. You don’t need to get it in one take. Flow through the choreography a few times while staying in your spot. Small changes in arms or expression are totally fine.

  • Corrections are for the camera, not your dancing. If I adjust you, it’s just to make sure you look your best in the shot.

  • Create space in your lines. Keep arms and legs lifted away from your body so we can see your full extensions clearly.

  • Stay safe. Show power, but don’t push past your limits. We want strong shapes, not strained ones.

  • Be aware of spacing. Don’t block a teammate’s face or limbs—use your peripheral vision to stay connected.

  • When doing contrasting poses, make sure you’re not mirroring the dancer next to you. Create balance in the frame with intentional, different shapes.
